rules;
GENERAL RULES The rules are simple: treat each other as you would like to be treated.

Any instances of bullying, racism, homophobia, or harassment will be grounds for immediate removal. Please be respectful to each other. This includes respecting basic playing etiquette we are familiar with such as not mixing ic & ooc. If you have any issues or problems with another player, contact the mod through the dropbox.

This game will feature mature themes, including violence and sexual situations. Please be aware of this prior to applying. Although warnings are required for potentially triggering or nsfw content, all players must be 18+.

Please note that the biblical mythology used in this game is being treated in the same way as any other lore (ie. greek mythology, celtic folklore, etc) would be in a non-sol game.

APPLYING We accept both IC and OOC usernames for characters, however please avoid excessive underscores or extra letters.

You journal must have one IC and one OOC post back/future dated with your completed character info. Your character info can be in any format, as long as it includes your character's NAME, AGE, BEING TYPE, minimum 500 words of some type of HISTORY and any SPECIAL ABILITIES, be it a devil's psychic ability or a saint/apostate's divine gift. If your character is an apostate, please be sure to detail how their divine gift has been distorted since they strayed.

Characters must be one of the four being types (saints, apostates, fallen angels, devils) listed on the BEINGS page. Other types of beings, including regular humans, are currently not playable.

All characters must be originals. Fandom characters or characters from existing folklore are not available for play.

All PBs and characters must be 18 years of age or older.

ACTIVITY & THREADS/SCENES Our goal is to be a relatively lax and relaxed space where each player can set their own pace for playing. That being said, we do expect at least one form of activity a month. Activity checks will be conducted on the last day of each month.

Threads and scenes should be posted in our main comm, ~sancta. Plot posts and group threads will also go up here. Although customs are welcome, we encourage posting open scenes in order to foster interaction and development. Please be sure to mark anything graphic or sexual in nature with the appropriate warning tags.

If you need a hiatus for any reason, including mental health breaks, leave a note in the dropbox.

PLOTS & EVENTS We have a 'choose your own adventure' type approach to plot. This game is meant to be a supernatural mystery, centering around the question of what happened to God? and what's being plotted in Heaven and Hell.

That being said, participation in plots is entirely optional. If you'd like to write your character as being completely or generally uninterested in unraveling this question, you are 100% free to do so and simply treat the game as a supernatural sol sandbox.

For those who are interested in engaging more deeply with the mystery of the game things like plots, reveals, and information drops will evolve and occur based on your character's actions. For example, if you write your character as running around investigating hints and seeking answers, this may trigger mod played npc events and/or information shares for your character. The more active and involved you are, the more your character will learn about the greater situation.
GENERAL FAQ WHERE IS THE GAME SET?
The main setting is Rome, Italy and most major mod driven plots and events will be occurring there. That being said, you are free to set your own scenes and characters anywhere in the world you want.

Who is the Prophet Jessamy?
Jessamy Gaudin was a 34 year old Triduum saint whose gift was divine visions. On January 6th, 2024 — approximately two months before the start of the game — she suddenly went mad and, in the middle of the night, painted the words 'GOD IS DEAD' on the walls of Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome, before vanishing. This incident has since come to be known as the Proclamation ad mortem.

What happened to God?
Great question! And no one on Earth knows the answer. Since early December, all communication from Heaven or Hell has stopped; no saint has received any message from their guardian angel and devils are unable to get back into Hell.

Can I set a thread/narrative in Heaven or Hell?
If it is a current scene, no. It is impossible for any of the playable being types to get to Heaven, including fallen who have been permanently exiled. Although devils could previously go in and out of Hell freely, since 3 months before the start of the game — approximately 1 month before the proclamation of God's death in Rome — Hell has sealed itself up and all devils on Earth at that time have since been unable to get back into Hell.

However, if your character is a fallen angel or devil, you may write a historical thread/narrative set before the events of the game in Heaven/Hell.

Can my character be part of The Triduum or The Church of the Fallen?
As long as your character is a saint they can be a member of The Triduum. As long as they are a saint, a fallen, or an apostate they can be part of The Church of the Fallen.

Can I add a location, business, or organization to the Places page?
Yes, simply submit a location description and image via the dropbox.

SAINT & APOSTATE FAQ What kind of powers do saints have? Can my saint have more than one Divine Gift?
Aside from the powers posessed by all saints (purification, divine sight, demonic protection), all saints are blessed with only one divine gift. It could be a special ability such as healing, visions, great strength, savant talent in some area of the arts, etc.

Rather than a special ability, some Saints might instead be bestowed with a holy relic. It could be a sword, a staff, an amulet, a mirror, any item. When used by the saint they're meant for, holy relics display some special property. The blade of the sword might ignite in holy flame or the amulet might exorcise demons on contact, for example. Some saints may be given brand new holy relics by their guardian angel, while others might find themselves drawn to and inherit the relic of a past Saint. Either way, a saint has a deep connection with their relic; able to sense where it is at all times and even summon it to hand if they are near enough.

Heavenly Gifts vary dramatically, but whatever a Saint's blessing is, it's meant to aid them in fulfilling their divine calling.

What is a saint's divine calling?
As with their heavenly gift, what a saint's divine calling is also varies. Not just in terms of logistics, but also in scope or scale. One saint's calling might be to spend their life healing the poor, while another’s could be to save one specific person. Whether it's a life-long mission or a singular moment, all saints are duty bound to find and fulfill their divine calling.

How does a saint know what their divine calling is?
This is, perhaps, one of the most complicated aspects of being a saint. Some saints are told explicitly by their guardian angel what their mission is. Some saints might sense it within themselves from the start. Others might discover what their calling is along the way. Some might go their whole lives never fully understanding exactly what their divine mission was. It all depends.

Does being a saint mean my character is a nun/priest?
No. Saints are regular people, despite being divinely favored. Although a saint can become a priest or nun, many live regular lives outside of their divine mission. How involved or un-involved they are with the Church or any non-secular organization is entirely up to the saint.

How do guardian angel work?
Each saint has one of the seven main archangels — Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Camael, Jophiel, or Zadkiel — as their guardian angel. A guardian angel's job is to provide a saint with guidance and counsel. That said, the degree to which a guardian angel communicates with a saint varies. For some saints, their guardian angel might appear to them regularly and give them frequent guidance, some saints might have only ever communed with their guardian angel once and received only vague instructions, others might be somewhere in-between.

Does it make a difference which Archangel my saint's Guardian is?
Usually, a saint's guardian angel relates to what their divine calling is. For example, a saint whose divine calling is healing the sick is likely to have Raphael as their guardian, while a saint whose calling is related to the arts is more likely to have Jophiel or Uriel.

Choose your guardian angel wisely, as this will also influence what your character might learn in-game.

How does a saint become an apostate?
A saint becomes an apostate when they betray God, commit a grave sin, and/or turn away from their divine calling.

What happens to a saint's divine gift when they become an apostate?
It becomes corrupted and will start to backfire on them in some way or another. The longer and more deeply an apostate strays from Heaven's Will, the more distorted and volatile their power will become.

What if my apostate's divine gift was a holy relic?
The apostate will no longer be able to even touch their holy relic and any direct contact with it will physically burn them. However they will still feel it calling to them, constantly and unceasingly, and the inability to answer that call will leave the apostate with a perpetual aching emptiness within them.

What happens to apostates who become evil?
Apostates who stray to far and commit grievous harm are typically hunted down by The Triduum and imprisoned in the Black Cells. Some apostates who fall irredeemably far and become too dangerous may even end up being killed by their own guardian angel, though this is a very rare occurrence and hasn't happened in the past 500 years.

Can an apostate become a saint again?
Yes. On some occasions there have been apostates who have sincerely repented, been forgiven by God, and been able to reclaim their status as saints again. However the road to forgiveness is difficult, and depending on how great their transgression was, apostates usually have to perform some act of atonement in order to become saints once more.

FALLEN & DEVIL FAQ What kind of transgressions can cause an angel to become a fallen?
Disobeying God's command, unauthorized interference with humans or the human world, associating with Lucifer or any of the creatures of Hell, or committing a sin are all crimes that can cause an angel to be cast out of Heaven.

Can a fallen angel become a regular angel again?
There has never been a case of a fallen being able to return to Heaven. Some fallen hope that when Judgement Day comes, if they have repented and avoided the temptation to become demons, they will be allowed to rejoin the Heavenly Host.

Can a fallen angel be killed?
No. Their immortality is part of their punishment for breaking Heaven's law. It is exactly this immortality that sometimes drives fallen mad. Many end up swearing their allegiance to Lucifer and descending into Hell to become demons. As with apostates, fallen who commit grievous harm are typically hunted down by The Triduum and imprisoned in the Black Cells.

How are devils different from higher order demons?
Higher Order Demons were all once angels and became demons after swearing their allegiance to Lucifer. Devils are lesser demons who were never angels. Instead, they are formless spirits of flame and shadow who were created directly out of the void of Hell. Unlike Higher Order Demons, who are able to manifest a physical form, devils require host bodies in order to walk the Earth.

What happens to the host when a devil possesses their body?
A human who is possessed by a devil will ultimately die, though how quickly or slowly that happens depends on the devil. A devil can choose to drive out the host's soul immediately upon taking over the host body, or they might toy with it before taking full control. If a devil is exorcized from its host before the host's soul is destroyed, the human host still has a chance to be saved.

Can a devil possess any human?
Devils are unable to possess pure souls, saints, or apostates. They can also be warded off by holy relics and hallowed ground.

How often do devils need to change hosts?
Whenever the host body becomes unusable. Although possession does make a host body more durable than normal, it is still a human body. It will still age and take damage.

Can devils be killed?
Not permanently. A devil's spirit cannot be completely destroyed, and in the past they could only be forced back to Hell via exorcism.

Since Hell is sealed, what happens now if an exorcism is performed on a devil?
Although an exorcism will still hurt and weaken a devil, it no longer expels them from their host body. For this reason, all captured devils are now being imprisoned in The Black Cells.
